Harrogate Borough Council has started work on preparing a new Local Plan for the district, which will cover the period 2014-2035. This will set out how much and where land should be provided to accommodate the new homes and jobs that are needed in our district. The new Local Plan is not just about homes and jobs; it will also look to facilitate new infrastructure provision to ensure that development is sustainable. This might include new transport measures, new sport, open space and recreation facilities as well as schools, shops and community facilities. Finally the new Local Plan will also look to protect and enhance our high quality natural and built environment.

Once the plan is finalised and adopted, it will be used to manage development through the determination of planning applications; making clear where development is acceptable and providing certainty for local communities that new development will happen in a planned and co-ordinated way.
